If she'd ever been to a place more beautiful than this, Zephyr could not recall it. For now, the young woman stood on the edge of a cliff, the strange yet beautiful sun motionless in the sky. They called this place 'forever dusk' and now Zeph knew why. That very same orb of light made her into an image that almost appeared imaginary. Her hair, crimson threads of silk, framed a face with eyes the color of gold. Brown and green, her favorite colors, adorned her figure in the form of a sleeveless top and gentle skirts. Red ribbons danced in her hair.
She had never understood the sky. It was always changing, never still, never known. And now it puzzled her more than ever. Stars lit the sky, planets she had never seen before making a display above her. How could this be, when it was still dusk and the sun still alive in the sky? What more could hide in the endless abyss of space, shrouded by the dark of an eternal night?
In wonder she stood, letting the sun bathe her skin in a golden grace. Below her at the base of the cliff was a small stretch of sand and before her, extending forever, an ocean drenched in amber light. Everything glittered, everything was hardly real.
Zeph had left the city long ago. Although she enjoyed companionship, her wolf-like instincts always drew her away from others at times. Still, the empty place beside her made her wonder if she should go back. She had only been gone for so long she'd lost count, and yet she felt right here. She felt whole.
And yet her soul begged as it always had for a person to hold on to. Thought seemed scarce here, the beauty of the dusk ruling over pointless dreams and fantasies. Maybe one day the dusk would bring her something of its own.

The day-or dusk may have you- was indeed glorious and the breeze that spread the world around them was warm and calm carrying the scents of the town in a short distance. He was against a tree his pack to the soft wood of the aspen breed as a small leather book lay open at his side. If one took a glance they would assume correct the man was in slumber his head turned slightly against the trunk, his hands-well his whole body for that matter, relaxed and only moving with the soft purr like breaths whispering from his throat. His name was Johnathan and he was one of the many passersby who spent much of his free time to the town of Forever Dusk when he was not in the company of the fairy King.
He hadn’t been here long enough to consider himself a real citizen but indeed he’d known who lived among the village. As the breeze twisted past a sweet female scent disrupted his light slumber and soon as it was, his eyes, a deep and fiery hazel, pulled themselves open with a seeming weight about them. With the greeting of the light to his eyes it had taken a dazed moment of rubbing and blinking for him to gain comfort to the sun. With his hands upon the ground the emerald grass weaving through his finger, Johnathan pushed himself straighter taking a glance about the surrounds both in adjustment and search for this stranger scent. Odd, there was no on- ah, there. In a moment his eyes had withheld the reflection of the girl in the distance her features of a wolf obvious to his eyes. With a light content sigh he shifted some, closing his book and scooping it up within his hands as he stood. Silently and almost with stealth he approached her from the rear closing the silence with his voice in rich depth of adult hood.
“Lovely is it not?” A smile replaced his current dreary expression as he stepped lightly to her side. His eyes had only taken her in as she wasn’t aware of his approach but with his acknowledged company that deep brown did not leave the waters below though his all mental occupant was her.

Zephyr had not expected someone to find her, here in a place of pure serenity. Her mind was changed the minute she heard a purr of a voice reach her ears. Her eyes flickered to where he stood, golden amber looking into a deep hazel. For a moment she studied him. She was quick to realize that he was a wolfen ace. The way his eyes appeared and the way he walked was enough for her to confirm it.
She let her own voice be heard, a caressing note in song of hollow hymns. "It is..." Of course it was. This was a part of the world she felt attached to, drawn to. This was one of the few places she saw nothing but beauty...the lovely he spoke of.
Her skirts ruffled slightly, her hair dancing in the warm breeze. Her lips were parted slightly, breathing in the scents of the dusk. Her eyes were sparkling, the sun making it's home in the golden orbs.
"And may I assume that I am not the only one enjoying it?" she asked, slightly amused. She truthfully did not expect anyone to come up to her, and yet lately she was starting to learn the opposite. Theory had proved that. It seemed that she needed to start opening herself up to the unexpected, even when she was raised in a town where nothing ever happened. There was no adventure, no romance, no mischief, nothing left for her in the City of Luminallia. Out here she was getting a taste of the unknown.
She returned her thoughts to this stranger. She noticed the book he held, respecting him for liking to read. She herself fancied books and had a collection of her own. And yet somehow I figured they'd take me in as a scholar or something... she thought lightly, But I'm not the only one with my nose between pages...
"My name is Zephyr of the West Wind," she said kindly. "May I inquire your name as well?" She smiled at him, hoping that she was not keeping him from something important though enjoying the fact that she now had someone to talk with.

No, not a thing was of importance to him but here and now. He hadn’t seen a half beast in so long he’d almost felt alone among the feline lands. Johnathan returned her smile with one of his own in a distant glow.
“No, you are far from alone miss. This beauty has offered something I cannot create even with that of my own imagination and have you know I can go the miles for creativity.” He laughed inwardly to himself knowing his years of both writing and reading had taught him dreams have no boundaries. His eyes found her again just as soft. She was indeed something like an illusion but beautiful to say the least. Sure she was as real as he could sense but what was magical about the aura about her was the certain glow withholding her petite yet admirable form. No, now don’t get him wrong he was doing nothing of looking her up or any form but was simply breathing all she was visually. As she spoke of her name he’d already let his eyes drift back to the skies that withheld an unexplainable mystery in their distance.
“Zephyr…” he whispered it to himself more for memory than anything. “Well as it is such a pleasure in your acquaintance I shall offer you, Johnathan.” He let that fire fall from the sky to settle upon her once more. His voice was still warm, still content and would likely cease to change among the time spent here. With a distance glance he finally proposed his sudden idea.
“Would you care to venture down to the waters? Be it for only a stroll along the edge.” Johnathan shifted slightly with a quick glance her general direction. Surly if they were to converse among themselves would the soft song of the waves sooth the mood and make the time spent comfortable for them to speak. He would need it having found himself so deprived of the contact he once knew. Finally he swallowed back his hesitance and looked upon her, no weight within his eyes no troubles, just a certain peace that few had these dark days within the ticking bomb of war.

Zephyr felt a bit of charm coming off of this man. He seemed to have a bit of Independence about him, freedom of thought and such. He was different than most people she had met. He wasn't in a rush about things, nor was he one of the men to go looking all over her. He was being a gentlemen, something Zephyr did not know still existed.
He spoke his name easily, not stressing syllables as many might to add effect. Johnathan. Zephyr blinked. She would remember his name as she had Theory's Her own eyes had wandered to the sky, constantly drawn to the never ending beauty that seemed to radiate around them. Beyond imagination, indeed. Beyond belief.
She let her eyes float down, resting on the wolven ace before her. He was handsome, with features not to bold, yet a sculptured look about him. Almost as if he had been carved from marble, a piece of art, and allowed to walk as a person. This thought made Zephyr smile, a blush creeping into her cheeks making them bloom roses. "I must accept your offer, Johnathan, for the shore seems inviting enough under the sun's glow." Her voice, that same gentle melody, drifted into existence as a lullaby might.
Looking down to the placid waters, the waves barely rolling though making the scene quite wonderful,Zeph wondered why she was doing this again. It seemed that lately she was going along with every stranger she met. Maybe it's because the strangers here are so... she risked a glance at him, beautiful...
She waited for a moment, not knowing how he planned to go to the shore. They would either walk for a while to reach a drop small enough for them to walk carefully down, or they could try to jump the space where the small cliff let off a few yards from them. Johnathan would be able to land easily, but Zephyr was not sure if she could manage in her skirts by herself. Maybe he would take on his wolf shape and they could go down like that.... otherwise Zephyr would be trying to find an easy way to slide off of rock without falling too far.

Oh would he loved to make that jump, feel a bliss moment enough to be a taste of flight but as it was the woman had skirts and with as the winds there would be no jumping today. Johnathan laughed lightly to himself, warmly, a content voice melting the lining of their stranger acquaintance. He had noticed her hesitance and realized why.
“I do apologize for not thinking of the facts.” She could have guessed he’d read her mind with her simple motions in shifty wonder as to how they had destined themselves down the cliff side.
With a moment to think he’d figured a few motions. One, he could take his wolf form yes, but the item within his hand would be left and he wasn’t sure they’d be returning. Second, well really he hadn’t thought of a second until this very moment. That gaze fed upon the edges they could take finding one with overhangs and few ridges offering good to their travel down. With a distant breath he moved focus back to the woman at his side.
“There is a place for easy access to the land below there,” he pointed out what his eyes had caught. “But at the lowest point there is a fairly short drop.”
With that he’d stepped ahead leading her there. As they were to advance down the side Johnathan would be quick at her fore sliding at a fair distance to both make sure the forth was safe as well as if she were to fall he would be there to lift her back off the ground. At the end, the very edgy drop off he jumped landing with little buckle within his knees. Dusting away the sand from his pants he stood straighter tossing the book lightly to the side his eyes finding her again. “You can trust my catch if you jump,” he began in a low call stepping forth lightly. He could reach and if she were to fall forward slightly his hands would be high enough to take her waist and lead her whole self down to the beach below.

Zephyr followed him down, careful with her steps. She took them lightly, though wolfen balance kept her safe. Her hands grasped the rock, her fingers finding places to hold as she lowered herself down the side. She watched Johnathan with feint admiration. He seemed so graceful on his way down, as if it were merely a hill of grass.
The rock was warm, the fading sun providing a gentle glow on the welcoming surface. As they descended, Zeph watched her companion take the jump, carefully rising as he hit the sand. "I'm sure you'll catch me," she laughed as she looked down at him feeling silly. Her smile was set, her amber eyes glittering like gems. "Just don't drop me!" she warned with an amusing glance to his eyes. She was actually having a good time already.
Somewhere in the back of her mind, she wondered who Johnathan really was. What he did in his life and why he was in the city. She herself could not answer that question. Things lately had made her give up on finding a purpose for herself. Instead she insisted on her purpose being to get along well. It felt as if that would be her duty for now. And yet somehow she felt separated for something...
In one motion, she held her skirts still and had slid from her place on the cliff to where his arms reached up for her. The ribbons in her hair swirled as she dropped down to him. She felt as if she were some stupid damsel in a movie were she was always in trouble. She hated the feeling of being helpless. It's kinda' fun to be caught though... she told herself, a wicked gleam in her eyes, And he is fairly attractive...

His balance never shifted, never swayed and as she fell to his grasp he was quick to make it painless keeping his grasp light yet dependable. Finally he let her to the ground the lithe of his smile still there even as his expression turned to something a little different, a little more intrigued. Though he was soon to knock it away common casualty to his reactions and though her scent a warmer comfort could have made his ‘inner wolfy’ purr he couldn’t bare to believe anything in his reckless mind just yet.
As days went he began to wonder himself why he was really here in the first place. Well it was obvious on his journey weary feet had lead him to the hands of this kingdom but what it was keeping him still-turned cryptic in his mind. Eyes cast out to the pale of the sea catching a blind grasp of the sun in its eternal farewell. Finally his eyes settled steady back upon her with that more aquatinted smile delicate along his features. “So what brings you here? For if it is my right to assume you residence has not been counted before.”
Well he could guess her wandering temptations to journey would be the likes of her stray but it was always better to ask. The silence between them could never been titles uncomfortable for he’d found all atmosphere a comfortable casual which was nice considering it was hard to know who to trust these days. Nah, he’d never found himself tossing fur with another but nor had he stuck his curious nose in topics that were screaming his presence unwanted. He was one to be a little nosey here and there but there was that better judgement keeping him from digging his own grave.

When her feet touched the ground, Zephy looked back at him. Her smile was warm and friendly as she looked up from where she stood. Something prodded the back of her mind begging to know why she was with this man in the first place. Even she was not entirely sure, though she did not wish to question it. There was something in his eyes that made her feel safe and care free.
When he spoke again, Zephy thought of an answer to that question. She had never been quite at home anywhere before. Yes, she would stay for a few months or a year, though after a while she felt restless again. She was always wanting to find that fantasy world far away from people. She felt as if she almost had it here, but things were still not complete. She needed to wander, to go out and venture on that horizon. This was not her home. In truth, Zephy thought she'd never have a home. She wasn't really sure why she was there in the first place. It was just another stop in her life. "All lights have to turn red sometime...I'm just waiting for this one to turn green..."
Her eyes let a honey glaze come to them. "Truthfully, I'm not really sure. I guess that it's just the closest thing to a dream I've seen yet. Places like this seem almost unreal. This place...I'm not sure. I feel like I need to be somewhere, though something tells me that I'm not there yet." A blush crept into her cheeks when she realized how forward she was being.
Sighing she let those amber gems of hers travel back out to the sea. She almost felt like running; taking Johnathan's hand and just going as far as she could down the shore. She was always moving, though suddenly she wasn't sure if she wanted to be moving alone. Things were so strange in this world they lived in. Things called her to keep going and things called her to stay put. She just wasn't sure what she wanted.
"And you? What would be your reasons for being in Forever Dusk?"

Johnathan had that kind of attention letting her know he drown focus in her every word. He was taught this way, respect came with attention. When he was young he’d been tested to repeat every word spoken to him thus confirming his focus. Yes, maybe a little odd but it had gotten him a good title in a gentleman suit. His eyes drifted through hers as she spoke almost searching for more than her words though his gaze fell as did hers. He took a few steps back motioning without a gesture to walk along the waters edge as they spoke.
His eyes cast to the sky as he smiled in thought forming a reply to her question. “Well, I am a messenger and friend to the royalty around this land. My travels started here, and here they have led me again,” The thing was he didn’t plan to leave like she.
Forever was a long time indeed but when found tangled in something of a content sanctuary he didn’t have the will to leave. Of course if life offered something better he’d take the step to get there but until then here he was and here he would stay. Hands begin to toy with the leather of his book running swiftly along the page edges almost thoughtfully.
“Well, I do hope, Zephyr, that you are to find that haven wherever it may take you.” He stole a glance to the balance of the ocean and horizon with the set of the sun. He too was inspired by the unseen oddity of this world. It almost made itself a whole other planet leaving him to think maybe the most peaceful of them all.
“I plan to settle my feet here for a while.” He stopped and traced a gaze to hers once again with a crooked smile leaving his words unsure though why was still a riddle.
Hazel soon fell as it was though and again he was watching the sand as though it had interest to offer. No self conscious was nothing of he but it was thoughts that had tugged his mind away to another place in the single silence time. Though mindless those fire copper eyes watched her from an aquatinted distance and his smile faded to something a little less ‘there’. Though his stare was unwilling to move it wasn’t heavy to make her shift under its weight for every so often he’d blink it away to the waters again.

Zephyr listened to theace speak, his voice soothing among the light lapping of waves on sand. Her ears listened closely, any small noise heard with amazing accuracy. Johnathan would have known what it was like to hear and see so well. Her eyes, slitted at the pupil, seemed to be sensitive to any and all movement.
The sun turned the water to an abyss of gold, the ripples resembling gold-washed satin. Even the sand sparkled with its own mystic glitter. Johnathan was right to stay here. Everything here was so serene. She would be staying here for only a short amount of time with her friends, though something told her she would soon be back on the road, looking for that special place far beyond the horizon.
As they walked, Zephy met his hazel eyes. Amber orbs drowned in his blue-green. She was lost for a moment, pulling reality back to her with smooth hands. Something about this reality was not refreshing though. It seemed that reality wasn't what she was looking for. But even in every crack, their lay reality and the world she was trying to find lay beyond the borders of existence.
Sighing she watched a bird fly in the sky. It's white wings did not move as it soared solemnly over the shore. It seemed so out of place Forever Dusk's sky to paint it's background. Unknown planets and galaxies seemed to make the bird appear to be swimming in space.
Looking back down, Zephyr spoke once more. "I hope I find it too," she said quietly. Those words that he had said meant a lot to her, a flare of hope in a life she was so unsure of. "And I hope that your life here will lead you well." She smiled at him, her eyes and smile warm. It seemed that she was meeting people that made a difference in her life every day now.

As her last comment left her lips he simply smiled and nodded lightly gesturing he too had hoped his feet carried him through a good life. Quietly he’d drug a single hand threw his hair pausing a moment in step turning his whole self to face that horizon.
“Its sometimes sad to think,” he began as if in mid thought “That this may all be gone within a few years, and it will only take a single moment.”
He was talking about the whisper war between the royal siblings of these lands, and how the black lord would destroy it all had he the chance at hand. Silently Johnathan let his mind wander more as his eyes cast a mirror of that scenery ahead.
Of course… a world so peaceful without a single worry wasn’t existent, well to his knowledge. No matter the atmosphere once breathed there was always something on the side that threatened a contented world. His eyes narrowed in the light of the sun before they drifted back to her a soft trace of a smile still there.
“I guess you’re right in wanting to continue on, even in such a paradise there’s something always missing even if it’s the smallest of things. I myself have given up on utopia, whatever or wherever that may be.” He could have inspired the idea to search for that world like she had, but he could only envy her dreams his being torn to many times for good perspective, even still he had a flicker of fantasy still left in his mind enough for him to carry an idea at least.

Zephyr walked with her thoughts straying afar. She now longed to be next to that faceless figure in her dreams Every single book the man would read to Zephyr read was about some perfect world and how everything was enchanting and lovely. Zephyr wished more than ever that she were in one of those stories now...falling through the pages like eternal time.
Sighing she took her eyes down from the glory in the dusk and looked out over the water. In the distance she could see a dragon flying low, its wings spread as it flew free across the horizon. The fay smiled. That dragon had no boundaries. It's sapphire scales sparkled and glittered, drifting away into the forever setting sun. Dysin's dragons were not like that. Zephyr had seen only one, and never wished to see such slavery again.
Shrugging off the thoughts of chains and collars, Zephy looked back at Johnathan, her eyes soft and wings fluttering gently. He seemed to know so much...to know every emotion that flooded through her mind as if he read one of those stories himself. She felt a sense of serenity fall over her as she looked at him and wondered how someone like him could have ever ended up this far anyways. Biting her lip, she looked away.
She wished she could stay now. More than ever she felt as if threads of silk pulled her to stay here. But leaving her dreams of travel would be hard. Even so, she hoped to get to know her new friend a bit more. Something about him made her feel...right. With a flick of her tail, Zephyr dismissed the thought and continued her longing gaze at the horizon. She would travel on, and she would find him again.
