The air seemed to whisper…the night chilled in the calm wave of winter. The lands were still, tranquil, and murmuring the tune of sleep until like a shot did a lithe woman bullet through the trees crashing through a wall of bush. Leaves scattered at her feet though she took no daring moment to notice how magically they fluttered for just following did two streaming shadows lunge after her huge maws gaping and drenched in toxic saliva. She was scared…god she was scared.
More frightened than she’d been in a while but even still she strived through shaking nerves and dashed onward fear itself the only thing keeping her pace at its tail saving speed. She’d journey out hours ago for food; a simple hunt that obviously took much too long.
Midst these forests anymore like law there was a curfew and with a curfew there were enforcers. These demons, as many referred, Dysin’s hell risen creations were like midnight police minus the obviousness of a badge. They were no more than shadow at first- nothing other than the looming black reflection of a tree or a bush, that was until one were to move even brush past. Like some animated liquid they’d sweep up from the ground all in unidentified shapes and able to shift at will. But one thing they all possessed was the massive set of teeth all unshapely put into a cavernous muzzle. But they only thrived under full moonlight whereas sun seemed to instantly swipe away their existence the moment they stepped into its glow. Where did they stay then? Who knows but at the moment the last thing Zephyr cared about was wherever the hell they came from.
Ahead she spied one of the many camps scattered throughout the lands and though knowing she would regret leading these things into the camps (much like guiding hungry wolves into a herd of sheep) she had not other options. Call her selfish but she preferred to keep herself un-mangled and undigested.
Destined to find safety her eyes darted over every tent every item that lay still outside but knew well no matter where she went while they hung this close to her heels she would be as easy as dinner served on a silver platter.
Cursing and utterly frustrated she continued forward swinging around obstacles only to hear them crash as the massive beasts simply blundered through them. Her wings were useless under her heavy cloak, and using them here would only alert more demons to her side. But though her moves were swift they gained her quickly pushing her to anxiety enough to make speed just slightly more until with wide and devastated eyes she spotted the drop off to the mountain side. Well…here she was between a rock and a hard place, but her best bet? Jump.
There was no choice.
Swinging back around would stall her enough for their perfect pounce and the chances were one in a million she would slip her way out of their grasp. Heart racing faster than she’d thought possible five steps almost ticked in time like slow motion until everything stopped and she leapt over that edge.
The two beasts slid to a halt at the edge of that fall and swirled away in the shadowy mist they came knowing...or thinking she would have to be god to survive that fall little did they know…
Extending her arms she reached to the slope of the opposing side grasping rock the moment her fingers brushed stone. Lucky she’d leapt off the side closest to the other. Her feet collided with soil and though somewhat slowed she continued downward sliding over soil like mud.
Desperate for a grip she reached for every extruding rock, until finally she gripped a sturdy surface swinging herself over and away from the tumbling mess that had been following her. Unable to hold with more than one hand the urge to scream bubbled in her throat though she knew better. Nobody would help her…how could they possibly without risking the lives she simply plunged through and past? She didn’t expect help nor did she certainly deserve it. With a last flush of energy she lifted her feet and secured them in the stone and dirt leaping off to another rocky platform just below. Unable to see as she grew closer to the large stone below it was literally surprise when she landed it. Though unprepared she tumbled once forward rolling over to go limp just at the chipped edge of her saving space. And it was there she lay for now unconscious but extraordinarily unwounded.
